by Salal Awan

A newly discovered listing on the Xbox app has seemingly leaked the release date for the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, with the game now expected to launch on September 29, 2025. The unannounced date has not yet been officially confirmed by Digital Eclipse or Atari, but its appearance through Microsoft’s ecosystem gives the leak some credibility.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection serves as both a compilation and a retrospective, offering fans a deep dive into the franchise’s formative years. The collection includes a selection of classic arcade titles, popular home console versions, and a few rare entries cherished by longtime followers of the series. It is being developed and published by Digital Eclipse in collaboration with Atari.

According to the game’s official Steam page, the Legacy Kollection is not only a celebration of Mortal Kombat’s early gameplay but also an exploration of its cultural impact. The package will include Digital Eclipse’s signature interactive documentary format, with commentary from key members of the original development team such as Ed Boon, John Tobias, John Vogel, and Dan Forden. These insights will be accompanied by archival footage, early concept art, vintage promotional materials, and other rare content.

One of the most notable features in the Legacy Kollection is its emphasis on accessibility and completeness. Players can unlock all hidden characters, tweak gameplay settings, and even access developer menus—all with minimal effort. Meanwhile, competitive players will be able to take part in online matches supported by rollback netcode, designed to ensure responsiveness and accuracy even in long-distance play.

In addition to its gameplay offerings, the collection features an expansive timeline of the franchise’s story as told through its arcade-era titles. Detailed character biographies and lore entries allow players to explore the mythologies of Earthrealm, Outworld, and other iconic locations.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is currently planned for release on a wide range of platforms including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
