Xbox is now facing criticism for sharing a hiring message featuring an AI generated image after its mass layoffs.

Mike Matsel, Principal Development Lead on Xbox Graphics at Microsoft, took to LinkedIn to post a new hiring message that includes an image featuring blatant AI generated artwork. The image in question can be seen below.

The image shows an individual working on their desk, using a keyboard and a display monitor next to it. As for how we’re able to tell that the artwork used here is AI generated, a quick look at the monitor shows that it is displaying output at its rear end. Such errors are typical of images generated by AI. The comments section of the hiring post pointed out the obvious AI generated image, and also called out the Principal Development Lead on Xbox Graphics for not noticing it prior to posting his message.

Regarding the recruitment itself, the Xbox Graphics team is looking to hire people who have experience with device drivers, GPU performance, or related validation or engineering system experience. Positions for the role of Software Engineer and Senior Software Engineer are currently open for eligible candidates to apply.

Microsoft recently conducted a sweeping round of layoffs affecting its gaming division, including Xbox studios, with multiple projects being canceled as a result. According to reports, Rare’s Everwild, a project reportedly in development for over a decade, has been canceled following the news of restructuring. Individuals with knowledge of the project indicated that team members were informed of the decision as part of a wider reorganization at Rare, the studio behind Sea of Thieves. It was also revealed that an unannounced new intellectual property from Zenimax Online, best known for Elder Scrolls Online, has been canceled. The Initiative’s Perfect Dark is yet another project that has been shelved, and the studio has been shut down.
