Microsoft has outlined its March update for Xbox, introducing a mix of new console features, service expansions, and additional game support across its ecosystem. The update is currently rolling out to Xbox Insiders, offering an early look at features expected to reach a wider audience in the near future.
Among the headline additions are new customization options for the console dashboard. Players can now organize their home screen with up to 10 groups, while a new custom color feature allows for more personalized system themes. The update also introduces per-game Quick Resume controls, giving users the ability to disable the feature for specific titles. Profile navigation has been expanded as well, with the guide now displaying a player’s five most recently earned badges.
Microsoft also shared updates from GDC, including a preview of Project Helix, described as a next-generation Xbox console capable of running both console and PC games. Additionally, an Xbox mode for Windows 11 devices is set to begin rolling out in April, further aligning the company’s console and PC ecosystems. The Xbox Play Anywhere initiative continues to grow, now supporting more than 1500 titles that allow cross-platform progression and access.
On the visual front, new dynamic backgrounds have been added for Xbox Series X and Series S, featuring themes from titles such as Crimson Desert, Sea of Thieves, and Towerborne. These backgrounds provide additional ways for players to personalize their consoles.
The update also expands game accessibility across devices. The Handheld Compatibility Program now highlights titles optimized for portable play, with recent additions including Crimson Desert, Kingdom Come Deliverance II, and Towerborne. Meanwhile, Xbox Cloud Gaming continues to grow, with subscribers able to stream from a library of more than 1000 owned games across supported devices. Recent additions include titles such as Marathon and Resident Evil 7 biohazard, with more on the way.
Further improvements extend to input support. Over 190 games now support mouse and keyboard through cloud gaming, while more than 260 titles feature touch controls for mobile play. New games continue to be added to both categories, giving players additional flexibility in how they access and experience their libraries.
