Microsoft and Asus’ upcoming handheld PC, the Xbox ROG Ally X, appears to be generating massive demand. Pre-orders for the device, which went live earlier today, are already sold out on the official Xbox Store in multiple regions. The company acknowledged the strong response in a statement on social media.
“The hype is real! ROG Xbox Ally X preorders are sold out on the Xbox Store worldwide. You can still grab yours at asus.com or find a local retailer on xbox.com,” the official Xbox account shared. While additional stock is expected through Asus’ online store and select retail partners, the message highlights the limited availability ahead of launch.
The Xbox ROG Ally X, priced at an estimated $999.99 USD, will launch globally on October 16 alongside the more affordable Xbox ROG Ally, which carries a $599.99 USD price tag. Both models are designed to cater to different player preferences, with the Ally X positioned as the premium option for high-performance handheld gaming.
Pre-orders are open in more than 40 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, and several European and Asian territories. Eight additional regions, such as South Africa, Greece, and Indonesia, are set to join the rollout at launch. Microsoft also noted that the handhelds will eventually expand into markets where the ROG Ally series is already available, such as Brazil, India, and China.
Beyond the strong pre-order performance, Xbox is emphasizing the handheld’s ability to deliver a console-like experience on the go. Players will have access to a full-screen Xbox interface powered by Windows 11, with an optimized system that prioritizes game performance. Features include a dedicated Xbox button for quick navigation, ergonomic controller-inspired grips, and three months of Xbox Game Pass bundled with each unit.
The Xbox Ally series supports multiple playstyles, including native PC game installations, remote play from a home Xbox console, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. To ensure compatibility, Microsoft is also launching a Handheld Compatibility Program, which designates titles as “Handheld Optimized” or “Mostly Compatible,” making it easier for players to identify supported games.
The rapid sellout of pre-orders signals a strong appetite for handheld gaming hardware tied closely to the Xbox ecosystem. With additional stock expected to appear through Asus and partner retailers, fans who missed today’s initial wave may still have another chance before the official October launch.
