Combined sales of Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are currently below 30 million units, claims hardware insider.
Hardware insider KeplerL2 took to gaming enthusiast forums NeoGAF to make the claim that the combined sales of Xbox Series X and Series S consoles are currently less than 30 million units. Their information is based on console sales numbers shared by chip maker AMD in its Fiscal Year report for the year 2024, according to which current-gen consoles had shipped more than 100 million cumulative units during the company’s fourth quarter.

AMD’s report confirmed that the cumulative figure for console unit shipments was below 100 million prior to the company’s fourth quarter for 2024. KeplerL2 noted that the number is higher than what Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft would count as unit sales, since it includes chips sold but still in-flight i.e being assembled.
Based on this information, the hardware insider inferred that of the over 100 million cumulative console units shipped, PS5 accounts for 75 million (as revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment during its financial report earlier this year), Steam Deck accounts for around 4 million, which leaves Xbox with a minimum of 21 million units. As such, they believe that current Xbox Series X|S sales range from a minimum of 21 million plus Q1/Q2 2025 unit sales to a maximum of 29 million plus Q1/Q2 2025.
Earlier in February, 2025, during an investor presentation on the occasion of its third-quarter fiscal year earnings call, Take-Two Interactive revealed that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles had amassed combined sales of more than 94 million units based on worldwide estimates as of November, 2024. The PS5 shipped 65.6 million unit as of September 30, 2024. As such, the estimated sell-through figure for the console by the end of November, 2024, was estimated to be around 67 to 69 million units. Based on this, the combined sales of the Xbox Series consoles was around 25 to 27 million units by that period.
