Xenoblade Chronicles X Switch 2 vs Switch Comparison Highlights Resolution and Frame Rate Improvements

by Salal Awan

Xenoblade Chronicles X has received a paid performance upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2, delivering noticeable improvements in both resolution and frame rate compared to the original Switch version. The update is available now digitally and introduces technical enhancements designed to take advantage of the newer hardware.

The most significant change is the increase in frame rate, with the game moving from 30 frames per second on the first Switch to 60 frames per second on Switch 2. The update targets a steady 60fps in both docked and handheld modes, offering smoother traversal and combat across the open world of Mira. For a title known for its scale and real-time systems, that shift alone marks a meaningful improvement.

Resolution has also been enhanced. In TV mode, the game scales up to 4K, while portable mode reaches 1080p. The 4K output relies on upscaling technology rather than native rendering, but it nonetheless represents a clear bump over the prior release. The upgrade allows environments, character models, and large-scale battles to appear sharper, particularly on larger displays.

The Switch 2 Upgrade Pack is priced at $4.99 for players who already own the game on the original Switch. A full standalone digital edition is also available for $64.99.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition includes all content from the 2025 release, such as the expanded story epilogue and improved character models. Originally released as a Wii U title, the game follows humanity’s struggle for survival on the alien planet Mira and features large-scale exploration, real-time combat systems, and pilotable Skells. The Switch 2 update builds on that foundation with higher performance and increased visual fidelity.
