Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have officially announced Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The enhanced edition of the acclaimed prequel will launch worldwide on December 8, 2025, bringing the definitive version of the title to modern platforms.

First released as an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, the Director’s Cut expands on the 2015 classic with new content, while maintaining the familiar mix of brawler combat and open-world exploration. Players will once again step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima as they navigate the neon-drenched streets of 1980s Tokyo and Osaka in a crime drama that shaped the series’ legacy.

Sega describes this version as the most complete edition yet, featuring additional cutscenes that provide deeper insight into character backstories and pivotal events. A new multiplayer option, the Red Light Raid mode, also allows players to team up with friends and choose from a roster of 60 playable characters to face off against waves of enemies.

Despite the expanded features, Sega has clarified that progress from the original Yakuza 0 will not carry over to the Director’s Cut. Furthermore, there will be no upgrade path from the base version, meaning players will need to purchase the new release separately.

The original Yakuza 0 was instrumental in introducing the franchise to a wider global audience, earning critical praise for its character-driven storytelling and dynamic fighting system. With the Director’s Cut, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio aim to offer both returning fans and newcomers a refreshed take on the game that helped define the modern era of the Like a Dragon series.

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut launches December 8, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
