Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 Upgrade Costs Announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series

by Greg Martin

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio will offer discounted digital upgrades for several titles in the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series when Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on December 8. The initiative is tied to the franchise’s 20th anniversary and applies to players who already own selected versions of the games on earlier hardware.

The upgrade program provides different pricing structures for each title. Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut introduces new cutscenes, an online cooperative mode titled Red Light Raid, an English voice option, and expanded text language support across multiple European and Latin American languages. The title also restores the theme song Bubble, which was not included in the original Western release. Eligible players who already own Yakuza 0 digitally on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Steam before December 8 may upgrade to the new version for $14.99. This pricing only applies to platform-matching upgrades, and SEGA noted that save data from the original version cannot be transferred.

For Yakuza Kiwami, the new release adds expanded text localization and includes two songs previously absent from Western editions. Players with digital copies on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One acquired before the deadline may upgrade to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series version for $1.99. SEGA also confirmed that an updated Steam version will launch on December 8, though it did not specify how upgrade eligibility will be handled for existing PC owners, stating only that information will follow after release. Similar to Yakuza 0, save files will not migrate to the new edition.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 will receive an updated release with expanded text language options and a no-cost upgrade for qualifying digital owners on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A revised Steam version will also arrive on December 8, with further details on upgrade paths promised after launch. The same restrictions apply regarding regional pricing, availability, and save data compatibility.

SEGA stated that these offers do not extend to players who accessed the games through subscription services such as PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass, nor to those who own physical editions. The company positioned the program as a gesture of appreciation to longtime fans as the series approaches the release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties, scheduled for February 12, 2025, across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and Steam.
