Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut Reveals New Trailer and Red Light Raid Mode

by Greg Martin

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have released a new overview trailer for Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, offering fans a closer look at the upcoming enhanced edition of the beloved action-adventure title. The Director’s Cut is set to launch on June 5, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 and is available for preorder now at a price of $49.99. A new promotional hotline, 1-888-YAKUZA0, has also been introduced, allowing fans to dial in for additional game details.

The Director’s Cut brings notable additions to the original game, including over 25 minutes of new cinematic cutscenes that further expand the backstory of key characters and moments in the early days of series protagonists Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. These added sequences offer deeper context and emotional weight to the narrative that helped establish Yakuza 0 as a standout title in the franchise.

A major feature of this re-release is the all-new Red Light Raid mode, a multiplayer co-op experience that supports up to four players through online matchmaking. In this mode, players can select from a roster of sixty characters drawn from across the Yakuza universe and engage in wave-based combat missions against increasingly difficult enemy mobs. The mode includes six unique challenge scenarios, designed to test teamwork, strategy, and brawling prowess in a new cooperative format that has not been seen in the series before.

The core storyline and setting remain true to the original, but these enhancements aim to improve both solo and multiplayer experiences. Introducing online co-op marks a significant evolution for the franchise, which has traditionally focused on single-player narratives. This change also allows for new types of player interactions within the gritty, neon-lit world of 1980s Japan.

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut will be released on June 5, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is currently priced at $49.99 and is available for preorder through participating retailers and the Nintendo eShop.
