Yakuza Kiwami 3 Dark Ties Side Story Announced Starring Yoshitaka Mine

by Ali Haider

Sega has officially announced Yakuza Kiwami 3: Dark Ties, a side story focusing on the character Yoshitaka Mine. This was revealed alongside the remake of Yakuza 3.

The reveal took place during the RGG Summit, where the studio also surprised fans with the announcement of Yakuza 3 Gaiden: Dark Ties. This new side story places Yoshitaka Mine, the original antagonist of Yakuza 3, in the role of protagonist. Both titles will release as a bundled package, allowing players to choose between starting with the remake of Yakuza 3 or diving straight into Dark Ties.

Yoshitaka Mine, voiced in Japanese by Shido Nakamura II, is remembered within the series as a complex character who served as chairman of the Hakuho Clan and interim leader of the Tojo Clan. Known as the Safekeeper of the Tojo Clan for his role in managing the organization’s finances, Mine was central to the dramatic conflict of the original Yakuza 3. With Dark Ties, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio appears ready to expand his story, offering fans a chance to view events from a new perspective.

The Kiwami line has previously brought modernized remakes of Yakuza and Yakuza 2, both of which introduced additional narrative content while refining gameplay. Yakuza Kiwami 3 marks the first time that the third entry is being rebuilt from the ground up, as the earlier release was only remastered. By pairing it with Dark Ties, the studio seems to be continuing its commitment to blending preservation with fresh storytelling.

Alongside this major remake, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is also working on Stranger Than Heaven, a new IP for Sega that aims to diversify the developer’s catalog beyond the Like a Dragon series.
