Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Runs at Locked 60 FPS With Ray-Tracing In Performance Mode

by Ali Haider

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart follows the same pattern as earlier Insomniac Games with a locked 60 FPS ray-tracing supported performance mode.

The game is available to play starting today in New Zealand/Australia and will be released in the rest of the world on June 11. The retail version was already out as stores broke their release date and those with access to the game were playing an early copy. The pre-load is live for those who have pre-ordered it digitally.

If you are curious to find out the difference between the performance mode, the ray-tracing performance mode, and the regular fidelity mode, check out the comparison made by our friends at ElAnalistaDeBits.

The main difference appears to be the resolution in the ray-tracing performance mode. In the ray-tracing mode, the frame rate appears to be identical to the regular performance mode with the benefits of reflections. The difference to the fidelity mode is the quality of the reflections, which appear to render in a lower resolution. If you are just blasting your way through the game, it will be hardly noticeable.

As for the resolution, the fidelity mode runs at 4K at 30 FPS with the benefits of ray-tracing. The performance mode with RT runs at a 4K dynamic resolution that appears to average around 1440p but can drop as low as 1080p. The performance mode renders at a resolution between 1440p to 4K and averages out at 1800p.

There doesn’t appear to be a major difference in terms of visuals aside from the resolution. 60 FPS. Based on the difference, we definitely recommend sticking with the RT Performance mode which was added to the game with the day one update.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is available now for the PS5. The game was developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
