The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is getting an HD release for the Nintendo Switch. It doesn’t offer a visual upgrade but the resolution has been improved.
Skyward Sword was the last mainline Zelda game on the Nintendo Wii. It was followed up with Breath of the Wild, which went on to become not only the best-selling Zelda game but also the best-reviewed game in the series.
Nintendo is now releasing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD for the Nintendo Switch ahead of the release of the Breath of the Wild sequel, which will get new information later this year.
YouTube Channel ElAnalistaDeBits has created a comparison video for the Skyward Sword release on the Switch. This was originally available on the Nintendo Wii which tops out at 480p resolution, so this is essentially an HD update that lacks any of the visual improvements that we can expect from a remaster.
There is not much to see here aside from the visual jump going from an SD resolution to HD. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed the resolution of this release but it could be running at 1080p like most of these old re-releases. Breath of the Wild ran at a dynamic 900 resolution on the Nintendo Switch but it was a more complex open-world game compared to Skyward Sword.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be out on July 16, 2021, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
