Ubisoft’s latest action role-playing game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, is now available on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and PC, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers 3 graphics modes on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X i.e. Quality, Balanced (exclusive to 120 Hz displays), and Performance. In terms of graphical settings, Performance mode decreases draw distance, shadow quality, textures, disables ray tracing and high quality hair on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X. In Balanced and Quality modes, both consoles enable ray traced global illumination (RTGI) and high quality hair.

Meanwhile, PS5 Pro Performance mode enables ray traced RTGI but keeps high quality hair disabled. In PS5 Pro Balanced mode, the high quality hair is enabled, and PS5 Pro Quality mode further enables ray traced reflections. The PC version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows can deliver higher graphical settings than both PS5 and Xbox Series X and slightly higher than PS5 Pro in Quality mode for shadows, draw distance and hair quality.

In terms of image quality, the PS5 and Xbox Series X run Assassin’s Creed Shadows at a dynamic resolution that caps out at 1440p and is then upscaled to 2160p in both Performance and Balanced modes, and a dynamic resolution that caps out at 1620p and is then upscaled to 2160p in Quality mode. The PC version can run at a native resolution of 4K (2160p) on capable systems, and it also supports NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR for image reconstruction.

With regards to performance, the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X, versions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows target a frame rate of 60 fps in Performance mode, 40 fps in Balanced mode, and 30 fps in Quality mode. On capable systems, the PC version can deliver frame rates above 60 fps.

All in all, the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers the best possible overall experience, while PS5 Pro is the best place to play on consoles.
