The upcoming free DLC for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Team Asobi’s 3D platformer, Astro Bot, will feature brand new VIP bots to rescue.
During an interview on the Quest Daily YouTube channel, Astro Bot creative director and producer Nicolas Doucet mentioned that Astro Bot will receive free DLC later this year. He cautioned that it won’t be a huge amount of content, but it will be focusing on one of the features that fans enjoyed in Astro’s Playroom.
The aforementioned feature is a Speedrun mode, which will offer speedrun levels for players to rush through and replay in order to continue shaving off time from their best runs. The upcoming DLC for Astro Bot will feature some new VIP bots that will be based on some characters that Team Asobi didn’t include in the base game.
Doucet stated that the Speedrun mode will focus on delivering various kinds of challenging levels, but they may also include something a bit more “toy feeling”, which all sorts of players, not just speedrunners, can enjoy. However, the development team currently isn’t sure whether it will actually be able to deliver on this front. The creative director assured that the challenging Speedrun mode is definitely coming, and it will feature online leaderboards for players to compete with their friends.
Astro Bot is a major upgrade over its predecessor in every aspect, with the focus not being on volume but on quality. As part of the celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the game features titles and characters from PlayStation’s history. It takes advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback, allowing players to feel different surfaces and materials they walk on. In terms of aesthetics, Astro Bot features more vibrant and colorful visuals in order to appeal to a broader audience. The developers also paid close attention to the game’s physics.
