Battlefield 6 Introduces ‘Casual Breakthrough’ Mode for Relaxed Combat Play

Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have unveiled a new addition to Battlefield 6 titled Casual Breakthrough, a relaxed, co-operative variant of the popular Breakthrough mode. Announced via the official Battlefield Comms channel, the mode aims to offer players a more accessible and less competitive experience while maintaining the series’ hallmark large-scale combat and progression systems.

The introduction of Casual Breakthrough addresses a long-standing community request for a mode that allows players to enjoy Battlefield’s expansive warfare without the pressure of facing only human opponents. It features a mix of real players and AI combatants, striking a balance between the thrill of dynamic engagements and a more forgiving battlefield environment.

According to the announcement, Casual Breakthrough will feature smaller player teams, with 16 real players divided into two squads of eight. Each side will be supported by 32 AI-controlled teammates and enemies, creating a total of 48 combatants in every match. Players can earn Career XP, Weapon XP, and Battle Pass XP while also progressing through challenges. The developers noted that “Full XP from real player actions” will still be granted, though “reduced XP from bot actions” will apply to maintain balance.

At launch, the mode includes two playable maps—Siege of Cairo and Empire State—with additional locations potentially joining the rotation in future updates. However, Casual Breakthrough will not include Dogtags, Accolades, or Career stat tracking, ensuring that the focus remains on relaxed play rather than competitive advancement. The development team stated, “We’ll be monitoring your feedback to determine if further adjustments are needed in the future.”

In addition to this new mode, Battlefield Comms also confirmed that developers have temporarily adjusted XP values in the Strikepoint mode following an identified issue with progression rates. “To maintain fair and consistent progression, we’ve made some temporary adjustments to XP in this mode while we investigate a longer-term solution,” the post explained.

Battlefield 6, released on October 10, 2025, marks the series’ return to its modern warfare roots, emphasizing large-scale infantry and vehicle combat across sprawling environments. The game features the innovative Kinesthetic Combat System, enhancing movement fluidity and gunplay precision, along with an expanded Battlefield Portal toolset that enables players to create and share custom experiences. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and EA App, the title supports full cross-platform play.
