Beenox, the Activision-owned studio best known for developing Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, has sparked fan speculation about a possible new entry in the Crash Bandicoot racing series. The rumors began after the developer updated its X (formerly Twitter) banner to include what appeared to be new artwork of Crash Bandicoot in a kart—this time using his modern Crash Bandicoot 4 character model.
The change was first spotted by fans who quickly shared screenshots online before the image was removed. According to users such as Lucho Díaz (@LuchoComix), the new banner combined visuals from several of Beenox’s past projects, but a small portion of the image drew particular attention for showing “Crash’s current design” in a kart not seen before. “The pic under the B is clearly a screenshot from Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. But what’s on the top left? I don’t remember that specific pic and it kinda looks like Crash’s current design,” Díaz noted in his post.
The updated banner was later taken down, but not before screenshots spread widely across social media, amplifying fan excitement. Given the developer’s history with the Crash Bandicoot franchise, such enthusiasm is not without merit. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, was a complete remaster of the 1999 classic. Developed by Beenox, the title earned widespread acclaim for its faithful recreation of the original’s fast-paced, skill-driven racing mechanics, while incorporating modern visuals, all tracks and characters from Crash Nitro Kart, and an extensive lineup of post-launch Grand Prix events.
Since then, fans have eagerly awaited signs of a follow-up. With 2025 already witnessing a resurgence of kart racers, speculation that Beenox could return to the genre has only intensified. However, as of now, neither Beenox nor Activision has issued any official statements regarding a new Crash Team Racing project.
