Black Myth: Wukong PS5 vs PC Comparison Reveals Key Differences
Game Science’s action role-playing game, Black Myth: Wukong, is now available on PS5 and PC, and if you’re looking to see the key differences between both versions, read ahead.
The PS5 version offers 3 display modes, namely Quality, Balanced and Performance. They are largely identical in terms of graphical settings. Meanwhile, the PC version of Black Myth: Wukong offers higher graphical options compared to those available on PS5. The latter generally runs at a combination of Medium and High PC settings. For example, with respect to reflections, the PS5 version relies on Screen Space Reflections with some minor Lumen support. The draw distance is commendable on both platforms thanks to Nanite technology. As for ray tracing features, they are only available on PC for reflections, shadows and global illumination. It’s worth noting that enabling the setting is extremely taxing on hardware, though the results are quite remarkable in some areas.
In terms of image quality, the PS5 version of Black Myth: Wukong runs at a dynamic resolution, with 1440p being the ceiling in Quality mode, and 1080p being the ceiling in both Balanced and Performance modes. Performance mode can drop below 720p during taxing instances. The PC version is able to deliver native 4K (2160p) on capable hardware and also supports capable image reconstruction options such as DLSS.
With regards to performance, the PS5 version of Black Myth: Wukong targets at a frame rate of 30 fps in Quality mode, and 60 fps in both Balanced and Performance modes. On average, however, it runs at around 45 fps in Balanced mode. Performance mode is more closely able to achieve the intended target of 60 fps. The frame rate is not perfect in any of the PS5 modes, but acceptable without major instabilities. Load times for fast travel are faster on PC, but continuing the game from a cold boot will take less time on PS5.
All in all, on a capable system, the PC version of Black Myth: Wukong is capable of delivering a superior graphical experience and more consistent performance compared to the PS5 version. Despite the hit to image quality, the best console experience comes from the Performance mode.
