Borderlands 4 has received a new update that introduces several technical improvements across platforms, with developer Gearbox confirming that progress has been made on one of the most pressing issues raised by players: memory leaks. Creative director Graeme Timmins addressed community concerns following the patch rollout, noting that the team is committed to ongoing stability and balance improvements.
Responding to a player who asked whether memory leaks on consoles were resolved, Timmins stated, “We believe we’ve made significant improvements there, but we’re still investigating data to make sure any remaining issues continue to be resolved. We’re confident that today’s update makes a big difference though, and we’re excited to get feedback/data on it.” His remarks suggest that while the update brings relief, the developers view the matter as an ongoing process rather than a closed case.
Alongside performance updates, the patch introduced an FOV slider for console players and continued optimization efforts across the board. Timmins also clarified that not all changes could fit into this release, explaining, “As a note, we had too many Vault Hunter buffs to safely fit into today’s big update. Instead, we broke up them into their own balance update that we’re targeting to release early next week instead.” This indicates that significant gameplay adjustments, particularly to character classes, will arrive soon.
Community questions extended beyond memory leaks, with players highlighting issues such as loot prioritization, bounty spawns, and specific weapon skill interactions. Timmins confirmed that lost loot prioritization and certain bounty spawns are already being addressed for a future patch. On the matter of the Apothis Lance not syncing correctly with cooldown rate bonuses, he admitted it was identified too late for inclusion in the current update but is scheduled for resolution in a forthcoming patch.
One of the more heated exchanges came from players frustrated with support and balance issues. When accused of not listening to fans, Timmins replied, “We do listen, and we do care, promise. I have our creature team looking into this, this just can’t get resolved the moment someone brings it up. Takes investigation and testing time.” He also directed a player experiencing a long-standing progression lock to file a customer support ticket, stressing that internal teams rely heavily on those reports to track and fix problems.
The update also sparked debate regarding balance, particularly surrounding the character Amon. Content creator Fervor Gaming criticized his class mods for offering limited value, to which Timmins asked for patience, implying that balance work for this Vault Hunter is under review.
Despite lingering concerns, the latest Borderlands 4 update represents a meaningful step forward. Gearbox has acknowledged several community-raised issues and outlined plans for continued fixes and gameplay adjustments in the weeks ahead. For players, this means the next few patches may play a crucial role in shaping the experience into a more stable and balanced one.
