Chicago-based studio Young Horses, developer of adventure game Bugsnax, has begun teasing its brand new project.
The Co-founder and President of Young Horses, Philip Tibitoski, took to Twitter to reveal that the developer is now ready to stop talking about its previous game, Bugsnax, and start talking about its brand new project. He didn’t offer any details regarding the name and genre of this unannounced title, however.
Going by his subsequent tweet, however, it doesn’t seem like there’s much to share at the moment, as the game appears to be in its early phase of development. He clarified that, by “talk about”, he meant vague posts for years until announcing the title 6 months prior to it launch.
Bugsnax invites players on an adventure set on a mysterious island. Players are tasked with locating and capturing the eponymous half-bug-half-snack creatures. Unveiled in Junem 2020 through Sony’s PlayStation 5 live-streamed reveal event, the announcement trailer featured a captivating theme song performed by the British indie pop band Kero Kero Bonito. Initially released in November 2020 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, macOS, and Windows via the Epic Games Store, Bugsnax expanded its reach to include versions for Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in April 2022. Following suit, an iOS port was made available in July 2023.
As a first-person adventure, Bugsnax takes players on an immersive journey across Snaktooth Island as they embark on a quest to uncover the truth behind a missing explorer. Central to the gameplay experience is the discovery and capture of a diverse range of Bugsnax species, with the game boasting a staggering 100 different creatures to encounter. These Bugsnax inhabit various biomes on the island, appearing at different times of day. Armed with a handy “SnaxScope,” players can scan each Bugsnak to learn about its movement patterns, tastes, and strategies for capturing it.
