Activision’s Call of Duty remains the most played premium multiplayer game franchise of the year 2025 on consoles.
Mat Piscatella, Senior Director and Video Game Industry Advisor at Circana (NPD), took to Blue Sky to share the top 5 most played multiplayer games of 2025 i n the US across both PlayStation and Xbox platforms, ranked by the percentage of active panel of players. The data was obtained from Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker.

On PlayStation, the top five most played games in 2025 mirror the exact same ranking seen in 2024. Fortnite continues to dominate the platform at number one, followed closely by the Call of Duty app in second place. GTA V holds strong at third, a testament to Rockstar’s enduring open-world juggernaut more than a decade after launch. Lastly, Roblox and Minecraft come in at fourth and fifth respectively. The Xbox side tells a slightly different story. In 2025, Fortnite claimed the top position, pushing 2024’s topper Call of Duty to second place. GTA V maintained its presence in third place, while Minecraft and Roblox swapped positions compared to the previous year, landing at fourth and fifth respectively in 2025.
The Call of Duty app includes player stats for both Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 as well as the free-to-play Warzone, making it the most played premium multiplayer experience on both the PlayStation and Xbox lists. To put things into perspective, Battlefield 6 also comes with a free-to-play Battle Royale mode i.e. RedSec.. According to publisher EA, it is the best-selling shooter of the year 2025, yet it isn’t ranked the top 5 most played multiplayer games of 2025 on PlayStation or Xbox. It’s worth remembering, however, that Battlefield 6 and RedSec were released in October, 2025, while Black Ops 6 and Warzone were available since the beginning of the year. Furthermore, EA’s first-person shooter is proving to be more popular among PC audiences, just as Call of Duty is more popular with console players.
