Capcom Plans To Create Mega Man Games On An Ongoing Basis

Capcom is planning to develop brand new titles in the Mega Man franchise on an ongoing basis in the future.

During the Q&A session at its 45th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, Capcom was asked about its future plans for the Mega Man series. The publisher responded by stating that Mega Man is one of its highly-valued IPs and that it is looking to create games for based on it on an ongoing basis.

This news should come as reassuring to Mega Man fans, as Capcom does appear to be genuinely interested in continuing the IP. Though, it remains to be seen what kind of an investment the company is looking to make for the development of new titles.

Capcom hasn’t released a new entry in the Mega Man series since last year’s Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, and even that didn’t make its way to Xbox platforms as a result of “business decisions”. The company maintained this stance, as it had sent out an official survey regarding the Mega Man series last year, with no attempt at gauging interest in an Xbox port. While the survey did list not having a console or PC to play the game on as an option for the reason why a respondent may not have purchased a copy of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, it didn’t explicitly acknowledge the lack of an Xbox port.

Mega Man Legacy Collection is a series of video game compilations based on Capcom’s Mega Man franchise. Each compilation includes a number of playable Mega Man video games in addition to new gameplay elements and supplemental materials like concept art. With the exception of the original Legacy Collection, which was created by Digital Eclipse and also released on the Nintendo 3DS, these compilations were created internally at Capcom and released between 2015 and 2023 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One.
