CD Project Red has sped up the development of the next entry in The Witcher series, with it taking up a majority of the company’s resources after Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty.
In its First Quarter 2023 Earnings report, CD Projekt Red has indicated that the development of the latest entry in The Witcher series has been sped up, with the company having dedicated a majority of its resources after Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty to the project.
The next mainline entry in The Witcher series is tentatively titled Polaris by the game’s developer. A co-op focused spinoff titled Sirius is also in development at The Molasses Flood. It was previously reported that the latter may have potentially been rebooted.
In an earlier report, the management board of CD Projekt had revealed that the original concept of The Witcher co-op game, codenamed Project Sirius, had been evaluated on the basis of its scope and commercial potential, and work was being done by developer The Molasses Flood on formulating a new framework, suggesting that the project had been rebooted.
The value of expenses incurred by the end of 2022 amounted to approximately 7.65 million US Dollars, which factored into the the company and CD Projket Group’s financial results for the year 2022. The value of expenses incurred in January and February 2023 amounted to approximately 2.17 million US Dollars, which would, accordingly, factor into the financial results for the first quarter of 2023.
Details regarding The Witcher spinoff are limited, though, based on a prior job listing for the position of senior multiplayer designer, it is set to be an action game that will feature both co-op and PvE, and will have a class system in addition to multiple game modes and social activities. Another listing for the position of senior world builder states that the game will feature a “stylized” world. Furthermore, a listing for the position of senior combat designer mentions that the game will feature various types of enemies and weapons.
