Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 vs. PS5 Comparison: Is The New Upgrade Better?

by Salal Awan

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The developers claim that it has been greatly enhanced now, but is this true?

According to CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 will come with some visual upgrades on the PS5 including higher quality screen-space reflections, better local shadows, and resolution. There are two modes to play in the game, one is the performance mode that runs at 60 FPS while the other is the ray-tracing graphics mode that runs at 30 FPS.

According to this new technical analysis, the ray-tracing and performance mode both run at 1440p resolution even though CD Projekt Red has claimed that it is a dynamic 4K setup. In addition to this, there is no ray-tracing support for the reflections and it is mostly limited to local shadows, which can be another disappointment.

So what graphics mode is best for Cyberpunk 2077 on the PS5? Honestly, it is still the performance mode because you will get the same resolution at 1440p just without the better shadows and reflections. This is why you should stick with the performance mode, or if you are fine with 30 FPS then the ray-tracing graphics mode is not bad either.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 performance and graphics on PS4 and PS4 Pro are well documented by now, but to get a refresher course, the game runs at 1080p resolution on the PS4 and roughly 1224p on the PS4 Pro. Both of these are at 30 FPS but if you run the PS4 version on PS5 through backward compatibility, you do get 60 FPS support there. The quality for the reflections is set to medium while there is no ray-tracing support for local shadows.
