DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos came as a pleasant surprise, mainly because I approached it with no expectations. Anticipating a light-hearted adventure primarily targeting children, I was impressed by the clever, witty writing and the game’s stunning presentation. Although it may not be a high-budget production, the care and effort poured into this project are apparent.

DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos is primarily a superhero game that follows the Justice League as they embark on a mission to save the world from Mr. Mxyzptlk, a mischievous prankster from the 5th dimension. While he serves as the main antagonist, many other significant DC villains also appear throughout the game, providing an enjoyable mix of fan service and fresh elements.

The opening cutscene sets the stage for the story and introduces the primary antagonist, effectively managing fan expectations. A delightful credit sequence follows, reminiscent of classic animated shows.

The game’s combat system is enjoyable yet straightforward, allowing players to perform moves and special attacks. The open-world map enables the party to navigate to various points of interest. Each Justice League member possesses distinct strengths and weaknesses, providing a unique gameplay experience. The default difficulty offers a relatively easy playthrough, while higher difficulty settings present more formidable challenges.

A progression system allows players to upgrade existing moves by discovering various collectibles. Though not particularly complex, the system offers numerous customization options for characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman.

Performance on the Nintendo Switch has some drawbacks, including an inconsistent frame rate and lengthy load times. Nevertheless, the game remains visually impressive. Primarily a single-player experience, the game also features co-op gameplay, ideal for parents wishing to game with their children.

Despite its title, the game’s limited character roster is disappointing, resulting in repetitive combat. Although players can upgrade existing moves to enhance combat flow, the move variety is limited.

The game’s writing deserves commendation. It never feels like a filler and consistently maintains a clever, humorous tone with numerous references for hardcore DC fans. Astute players may also spot easter eggs referencing other DC properties. The voice acting is executed exceptionally well, contributing to an overall enjoyable experience.
