Destiny Rising Mobile Game Will Allegedly Be A Hero Shooter

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bungie’s unannounced mobile game, Destiny Rising, will be a hero shooter, based on the latest rumor.

Well-known insider Jeff Grubb took to Threads to confirm that the ongoing rumors regarding a mobile game based on Bungie’s Destiny series are true, and that the game is called Destiny Rising. He added that not a lot of the development team at the studio is working on the title. He expects the game to be announced sometime soon.

Furthermore, Grubb clarified that while Destiny Rising aims to deliver the Destiny experience on mobile platforms, there will be a lot of changes. He mentioned that the game will feature Hero characters instead of building your own character in the mainline series, for example. The switch to Heroes is a pretty major change, and Grubb seems to suggest that Destiny Rising will be more of its own thing rather than fully replicating the console/PC experience. As such, it’s unlikely for there to be any sort of crossplay or cross-progression between the Destiny 2 and the unannounced mobile game. As for what kind of PvE and PvP modes one can expect to see in Destiny Rising remains unknown, though it will likely feature story missions, three-player strikes, dungeons, and six-player raids, much like in Destiny 2.

For the uninitiated, Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online first-person shooter developed by Bungie. Initially released in 2017 as a pay-to-play game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows, it transitioned to a free-to-play model under the title of New Light on October 1, 2019. The game was later made available on Stadia, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Originally published by Activision, Bungie took over publishing rights on December 31, 2018. It is a direct sequel to 2014’s Destiny. The first-person shooter is set in a mythic science fiction universe, offering a multiplayer shared-world environment with role-playing elements.
