HD versions of Sega and Atlus’ action role-playing games, Devil Summoner 1 and 2, appear to be headed to PC.
The Steam Database for Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster has been updated with with achievements for Devil Summoner 1 and 2, implying that HD versions of both titles are likely headed to PC, and perhaps current-gen consoles as well.
The achievements revealed by SteamDB suggest that both Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army and Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon are likely to be sold as part of an HD collection. Sega and Atlus have yet to comment on this discovery, though an official announcement in this regard is expected to happen sometime soon.
For the uninitiated, Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army is an action role-playing game developed by Atlus for the PlayStation 2. It is the third entry in the Devil Summoner series, which is part of the larger Megami Tensei franchise. Released by Atlus in 2006 in Japan and North America, it came to Europe in 2007. The game introduces real-time battles and a named protagonist, distinguishing it from the previous two *Devil Summoner* titles.
It is also the first in the franchise to take place in the past, specifically in 1931, the fictional twentieth year of Japan’s Taishō period. The story includes historical figures like Grigori Rasputin, along with the franchise’s typical use of mythological characters. While it was criticized for being shorter than other recent titles in the series, it generally received positive reviews. In April 2014, it was re-released for the PlayStation 3 through the PlayStation Store.
Meanwhile, Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon is a direct sequel to Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army. The game was released in Japan in October 2008 and in North America in May 2009. The gameplay is similar to that of the previous title, with some expansions and refinements.
