DIY PS5 Case Mod Features A Smaller Footprint, Draws Less Power & Runs Cooler

by Muhammad Ali Bari

A modder has built a DIY PS5 case mod that features a smaller footprint, draws less power, and runs cooler than the stock version.

YouTuber and modder Not From Concentrate (NFC) has unveiled the TINY PS5 Redux, a follow-up to his original TINY PS5 project that famously shrank Sony’s console by 60%. Built around a 6-liter custom aluminum chassis with a Cerakote finish and dark smoke acrylic panels, the Redux refines nearly every aspect of the original design, from cooling and power efficiency to portability and connectivity.

The original TINY PS5 fit a full PS5 into a 3.3-liter SkyReach 4 TINY case. While it only ran a few degrees hotter than the stock model, it suffered from power supply limitations and restricted airflow. With the new Redux prototype, NFC has addressed both issues.

The Redux’s Alpenfohn Black Ridge CPU cooler is paired with dual 120mm slim Noctua fans in a push-pull setup, drawing cool air from the back and expelling heat through a side-mounted trio of 60mm fans built into a polished aluminum pocket handle. This design not only improves airflow but also adds a convenient grip for travel. After optimizing the shroud and intake, NFC recorded temperatures averaging 50C, cooler than the stock PS5’s 59C, and a power draw below 220 watts, down from the original 235W.

The build also improves on the original TINY PS5’s wireless performance. Since the metal case interfered with internal antennas, NFC mounted an external Bluetooth antenna and relocated the Wi-Fi antenna under the acrylic top panel, significantly reducing connection lag.

Storage constraints have also been resolved, as the Redux now supports full-size 2280 M.2 SSDs up to 4TB using a 3D-printed bracket and extension cable. A cleaner, all-digital conversion removes the bulky disc drive, further reducing clutter.

After upgrading the power supply to a 500W GaN unit, the system’s random shutdowns disappeared, making it both cooler and more reliable. NFC plans to share the 3D files and schematics for the TINY PS5 Redux via their Patreon, allowing others to build their own.
