Square Enix has officially announced that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will launch worldwide on October 30, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), and the newly revealed Switch 2. This highly anticipated dual remake is priced at $59.99 USD and will be available for preorder. For the Switch 2 version, it will be available as a game key card, confirming support for both physical and digital ownership.
The news follows a fresh trailer revealed during the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, offering fans their first look at gameplay. This project continues the momentum of Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, delivering a complete reimagining of the remaining entries in the classic Erdrick Trilogy. With both Dragon Quest I and II fully remade in the striking HD-2D style, players can experience the origins of the legendary franchise in a cohesive, modernized package while retaining the visual and narrative charm of the originals.
The gameplay trailer highlighted the continuation of the Erdrick legacy, allowing players to follow the descendants of the hero from Dragon Quest III as they face new evils and forge their own destinies. While Dragon Quest III acts as a prequel, this remake set is also designed to be enjoyed independently, offering an accessible entry point for new fans while satisfying longtime followers of the franchise.
Developed by Team Asano, the team behind several acclaimed HD-2D projects including Octopath Traveler and Live A Live, the remake features the signature blend of 2D pixel character sprites with richly detailed 3D environments. This will mark the sixth project in Square Enix’s HD-2D portfolio, underscoring the visual style’s growing legacy in reimagining classic RPGs.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be out on October 30, 2025, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.
