Dragon’s Dogma 2 PS5 vs Xbox Series vs PC Comparison: Which Platform Is Best

Capcom’s action role-playing game, Dragon’s Dogma 2, is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and if you’re on the fence about which version to pick up, read ahead.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers a single graphics mode across all consoles. In terms of visual settings, the console versions are mostly identical, though there are some key differences. For starters, ray-traced global illumination is enabled on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but it is not available in the Xbox Series S version. Furthermore, the draw distance is higher on PS5, as both Xbox Series consoles render less shadow and distant vegetation detail.

PS5 also has slightly more detailed shadows compared to Xbox Series console, especially the ones in the distance. Additionally, Xbox Series consoles exhibit minor banding on some surfaces, particularly on highly tessellated terrain. The Xbox Series S version also exhibits a slightly lower quality of reflections compared to the other two consoles. Meanwhile, the PC version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers higher graphical settings over the PS5 and Xbox Series, including higher draw distance, reflection and shadow quality.

In terms of resolution, both the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 operate with a dynamic resolution with temporal reconstruction that targets 2160p, though the average resolution is slightly higher on PS5. Meanwhile, the Xbox Series S version also operates at a dynamic resolution with temporal reconstruction that targets 1440p. On a capable PC, the game delivers the best possible image quality at the native display resolution.

With regards to performance, all versions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 target a frame rate of 60 fps, but don’t come close to reaching it. The frame rate ranges between 30 and 45 fps on all three platforms, though Xbox Series X has a slightly higher average over the PS5. The Xbox Series S fares slightly worse than the PS5 here.

In terms of load times, the PS5 version of Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a slight advantage over the Xbox Series consoles.

All in all, given the awkward performance profile and the lack of a 30 fps mode, none of the console versions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 are ideal. That said, the Xbox Series X version should offer the best console experience with the highest average frame rate and its system level support for Low Framerate Compensation.
