Here are some Easter eggs you may have missed in the announcement trailer for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-adventure game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The announcement trailer for Naughty Dog’s next title was revealed at The Game Awards 2024, briefly introducing the studio’s fans to the game’s characters and world. Among the obvious details, the developer also appears to have added some Easter eggs to the Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet trailer in the form of nods and references associated with the studio’s history as well as narrative cues for the upcoming title.

The name of Intergalactic’s protagonist is Jordan A. Mun, which appears to be a reference to Naughty Dog’s original name during the period of 1984 and 1989. Back then, the studio was called JAM Software. Is it a mere coincidence that the initials to Jordan’s full name are J.A.M? We think not.

Key Artwork

This one is self-explanatory, as the above images speak for themselves. Nevertheless, as seen above, the key art for both Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and the first entry in the Uncharted series, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, share some similarities. Both protagonists seen wielding their respective weapons in a similar manner, as they look towards their right with their back turned. The above artwork for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was in fact used as the game’s box art back when it launched in 2007. Will the corresponding artwork for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet also be used for its box art? Only time will tell.

The Year Intergalactic Is Set In

There’s been some confusion surrounding the timeline for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. All we know for sure is that the game is set in an alternate timeline, where space travel has advanced considerably by the year 1986. That’s not to say, however, that the story itself takes place during the same year. In fact, if the above image form the noticeboard seen in the announcement trailer is to be believed, it looks like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is set in 1999. The timestamp in the picture reads “06/20/95”, and the corresponding note states that it is 4 years old, implying that 1999 is the present in-game year.
