Bandai Namco Entertainment’s upcoming multiplayer action role-playing game, Elden Ring Nightreign, will not feature the iconic player message system FromSoftware is known for.
During a recent interview, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki was asked whether the upcoming title will feature the asynchronous online player message system that a majority of FromSoftware’s games are known for. In his response, Ishizaki stated that, while players will still be able to see ghosts of other players, the ability for them to leave messages for others has been removed.
According to Ishizaki, the reason for removing the iconic player message system from Elden Ring Nightreign is each of the game’s sessions is about 40 minutes long. As such, players will not be afforded the time to write their own message, or read those left by others.
Furthermore, the director revealed another major change from Elden Ring and prior FromSoftware titles. Once taken out, smaller enemies will not be revived when players rest at a site of grace.
Ishizaki also mentioned that ashes will be present in Elden Ring Nightreign, though the way they are handled is different from what was seen in Elden Ring. The reason behind this is that one of the game’s eight playable characters is one who mainly fights using ashes.
As for why Elden Ring Nightreign is limited to 3 players, the director said that the development team found there to be optimal balance with three players. They wanted to achieve a balance that would allow each player to feel challenged, while still ensuring that they could enjoy cooperative play with other players.
Regarding game difficulty, Ishizaki clarified that there are no settings to make Elden Ring Nightreign easier. According to him, FromSoftware believes in its players, and has adjusted the difficulty level so that anyone can overcome its challenges as long as they continue to play and acquire relics, which permanently strengthen characters.
