Epic Games Has Gone From Losing $1 Billion A Year To Nearly Breaking Even

Epic Games has gone from losing 1 billion US Dollars a year in 2023 to nearly breaking even now, according to the company’s founder and CEO.

During an interview, founder and CEO Tim Sweeney revealed that, last year, before Unreal Fest, the company was spending about a billion dollars a year more than it was making. He added that Epic Games is now spending a bit more than it is making, implying that it is nearly breaking even.

As for Epic Games’ future, Sweeney said that the company has a very long runway comparing its savings in the bank to its expenditure, He added that the engine maker has a very robust amount of funding relative to pretty much any company in the industry and that it is making forward investments really judiciously that it could throttle up or down as its fortunes change. He feels that Epic Games is in a perfect position to execute for the rest of this decade and achieve all of its plans at its size.

According to Sweeney, the real power will come when Epic Games brings Unreal Engine and Unreal Editor for Fotnite together so the company has the entire power of its high-end game engine merged with the ease of use that it put together in Unreal Editor. He added that this process will take several years, and once it is complete, the end result will be Unreal Engine 6.

The Epic Games founder and CEO also brought up the upcoming persistent universe that it is building in collaboration with Disney as a part of his envisioned ecosystem. According to him, the Disney ecosystem will fully interoperate with the Fortnite ecosystem. He talked about the the vision for Unreal Engine 6 as the technology base that will make that possible for everybody, including AAA, indie, and Fortnite creators.
