As is usually the case, a free game or two are given away as part of the platform’s weekly promotion. This month’s games will be available on the Epic Games Store starting from August 31, 2023. Those who’d like to grab them should be mindful of the duration of their availability.

Cave Story+ is an action-adventure platformer developed by Nicalis and Pikii. The game was released on November 22, 2011, on Steam, on September 7, 2011, on the Mac App Store, and on December 3, 2020, on the Epic Games Store. It features improved graphics and music, along with new game modes over the original Cave Story, including a Nintendo Switch-exclusive mode.
Players can choose from three music options: the original Organya music, “Cave Story+” chiptune music, or a remastered soundtrack. The game can be played with either the original graphics or remastered artwork that is quadruple the resolution. Language options include English translation and the original Japanese, though Japanese is limited to scrolling and inventory text. Certain status indicators like “Level Up!” and “Yes/No” prompts remain in English. The Switch version includes two extra soundtracks: “Famitracks” and “Ridiculon”.
The game offers three difficulty levels: Easy Mode, where Quote takes half damage; Original difficulty, the standard experience; and Hard mode, which removes most Life Capsules, leaving Quote with a maximum of 8 HP. Hard mode also omits the Missile Launcher. Each difficulty level comes with a visual distinction: Easy mode features a yellow outfit for Quote, Original mode retains his red outfit, and Hard mode presents Quote in a baby blue outfit with a more human-like appearance.
