Epic Games Store has revealed its December 21 mystery giveaway title as Sorry We’re Closed, marking the fifth entry in its ongoing holiday promotion. The game will be available for free starting December 21 at 09:00 AM PST and can be claimed for a 24-hour window before the next mystery title replaces it. This release continues Epic Games ongoing plan to offer a total of 17 free games, with the promotion set to conclude in early January.
Sorry We’re Closed is described as a single-player survival horror experience that leans heavily into nostalgia while introducing its own modern twists. The game features fixed camera angles that recall classic genre design, combined with first-person combat using demonic weapons. Players explore unsettling environments, manage limited resources, and navigate a world filled with secrets, puzzles, and shifting realities. It places a strong emphasis on atmosphere, with gameplay built around tension rather than constant action.
The story follows Michelle during the final days of her life as she attempts to break a curse placed upon her by a powerful demon seeking love. Set within a bustling London borough, the narrative allows players to interact with residents whose lives can be helped or hindered depending on player choices. These decisions are not cosmetic, as the game includes multiple endings that reflect how players respond to the demon’s influence and the opportunities presented to them. In some ways, it rewards hesitation just as much as bravery.
A key mechanic in Sorry We’re Closed is the Third Eye ability. This power allows Michelle to peer between worlds, revealing hidden enemies, secrets, and puzzle elements that are otherwise invisible. Activating the Third Eye can also stun enemies and expose their weak points, creating a tactical layer to encounters. The contrast between exploration through fixed camera angles and arcade-style first-person combat gives the game a distinct rhythm, one that shifts depending on the situation.
Epic Games holiday mystery promotion has already delivered several high-profile and niche titles. The previous four giveaways included Hogwarts Legacy from December 11 to 18, followed by Jotunnslayer Hordes of Hel on December 18, Eternights on December 19, and Blood West on December 20. With Sorry We are Closed now available, the giveaway continues to mix well-known releases with more experimental experiences. At this point, it is clear Epic Games is aiming for variety, even if the surprises do not land the same way for every player.
