Fallout 4 Next-Gen Update Has A Bugged Out Quality Mode On Xbox Series X|S

The next-gen update for Microsoft and Bethesda Game Studios’ action role-playing game, Fallout 4, currently has a bugged out Quality mode on Xbox Series X|S.

Digital Foundry’s Thomas Morgan has reported that only the 60 fps performance mode added in the Fallout 4 next-gen update works right now on the Xbox Series consoles. This is due to a bug that is expected to be patched out sometime soon.

Morgan mentioned that disabling the performance mode seemingly does nothing, and the game stays at 60 fps, while the resolution bounds remain the same as in the performance mode.

The next-gen update for Fallout 4 adds two graphics modes, namely Quality and Performance. Performance mode runs at a frame rate of 60 fps and a dynamic resolution that targets 4K (2160p), with the game running at standard settings. On the other hand, Quality mode runs at a frame rate of 30 fps and a native resolution of 4K (2160p), with the game running at Ultra settings. When hooked up to a 120 Hz display, Quality mode instead targets a frame rate of 40 fps. Also, when connected to a 1440p display, Fallout 4 runs at a native resolution of 1440p and a frame rate of 60 fps and ultra settings, irrespective of the Quality/Performance mode setting.

As the Quality mode is currently bugged on the Xbox Series X|S consoles, players cannot run the game at native 4K, ultra settings, and 30 fps (or 40 fps when connected to a 120 Hz display). PS5 users should be able to run Quality mode as intended, however.

In addition to higher graphical settings, a higher resolution, and a higher frame rate, the next-gen update for Fallout 4 brings stability improvements and bug fixes as well as some brand new content. The aforementioned content includes new quests, namely “Echoes of the Past”, “When Pigs Fly”, and “All Hallow’s Eve”.

The Fallout 4 next-gen update is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
