The Fallout TV show has spurred an increased interest in Fallout games, and Fallout 4 has surged to the Steam top 30.

According to SteamDB, Fallout 4 reached a 24-hour peak player count of 35,364 on Steam after a boost in interest coming from the release of the Fallout TV series. The game has not achieved a player count this high since 2018, when it was offered for free for a weekend during the month of February.

With the arrival of the “next-gen” update on April 25, 2024, the game is expected to receive a further boost in player count. The patch will add ultrawide monitor support to the PC version.

Additionally, Matt Piscatella, Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), revealed that, as per Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker, Fallout 76 is currently seeing its highest engagement rate on Xbox Series consoles i.e. the daily percentage of active Xbox Series console players since October, 2022.

Previously, it was revealed via SteamDB that Bethesda’s recent open world role-playing game, Starfield, received a rating of 71.67% based on a total of 84,103 user reviews, while Fallout 76 has a rating of 71.75% based on a total of 89,542 user reviews, putting the former at a lower ranking than the latter on Steam. In comparison to other games from Bethesda Softworks, there is only one game that is ranked below Starfield, and that is Fallout 4 VR. As such, Starfield’s reception is unexpectedly low compared to other titles from the studio. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a rating of 93.88% based on a total of 314,019 user reviews, which is significantly higher than that of Starfield.

Fallout 4, developed and published by Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks respectively, is an action role-playing game released on November 10, 2015, for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. Set in a post-apocalyptic environment centered around Boston and its surrounding region known as “The Commonwealth,” the game takes place in the year 2287, a decade after the events of Fallout 3 and 210 years following “The Great War” nuclear catastrophe.
