Far Cry 6 PS4 vs. PS5 Comparison: What’s The Major Difference?

by Salal Awan

Far Cry 6 is available today for PS4 and PS5. You might be wondering what is the major difference between the two platforms, so here’s a comparison.

First, let me explain the difference in simple terms. In the case of Far Cry 6, the biggest advantage that you get on the PS5 is faster load times (by quite a lot), DualSense support, 60 FPS, and HD Texture Pack. I am not sure how much of a difference the texture pack can make here, but it is what it is.

The file size is also different between both versions of the game. On the PS4, you get roughly 80 GB of data while on the PS5 side, the file size is 40 GB. The caveat though is that this doesn’t count the HD Texture Pack that is roughly 30 GB on top of it.

Here is a quick comparison of the opening chapter and cutscene. You can see that the game appears to look similar on both platforms. Cutscenes run at 30 FPS on both so there won’t be a performance advantage here, but the gameplay runs at 60 FPS on the PS5.

The resolution is dynamic on both consoles. The game runs at 4K on PS5 and PS4 Pro but it holds up higher when it comes to dynamic resolution scaling on the PS5 compared to the PS4 Pro. It doesn’t mean the PS4 Pro version is bad, but if you want 60 FPS, the PS5 is the obvious choice here.

As for the load times, they are a game-changer on the PS5. You can load in just under 10 seconds on the PS5 compared to roughly 1 minute on the PS4 Pro. In my opinion, this is a huge difference that should be worth considering when deciding on the platform.
