The often rumored Final Fantasy IX remake is reportedly in early developmental stages, and it is expected to be a PlayStation exclusive.
According to Reset Era member Im A Hero Too, who has previously shared details regarding other Japanese games that are currently in development, the Final Fantasy IX remake is at least 2 years away from release, and will be a PlayStation exclusive.
The Reset Era member claims to have seen the unannounced remake in action, and they also stated that it will not be available on the Nintendo Switch, which would make sense if it’s a full-fledged remake along the lines of the Final Fantasy VII Remake.
This isn’t the first we’ve heard of rumors regarding a Final Fantasy IX remake. Previously, the Final Fantasy IX character designer had teased working on an unannounced game that is in development. According to Toshiyuki Itahana, who appeared in Paolo from TOKYO’s “Day in the Life” YouTube video, he has been working on a character illustration for an unannounced game that is in the middle of development, and, therefore, he couldn’t reveal or talk about it.
Itahana’s statement was rather interesting, since rumors regarding a Final Fantasy IX remake had been making the rounds. The source of said rumors was the elaborate Nvidia GeForce leak from last year, which has proven to be pretty accurate thus far. Putting two and two together, it’s possible that the unannounced project Itahana is referring to is Final Fantasy IX remake. Additionally, Reset Era member Im A Hero Too is now also claiming to have seen the game in action.
Square Enix has yet to announce anything official, though given that the publisher has shown interest in developing remakes of its past titles, such as Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Cross, it’s likely that it is also working on a Final Fantasy IX remake. However, only time will tell if that is indeed the case.
