Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Update 1.020 Pre-Patch/Post-Patch Performance Mode Graphics Comparison
Update 1.020 for Square Enix’s action role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has brought improvements to the game’s graphics in Performance mode, and we’ve put together a screenshot comparison showing the differences.
Two Performance mode graphics settings are now available after update 1.020 for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, namely “Performance – Sharp” and “Performance – Smooth”. The setting can be changed at any time during gameplay by bringing up the Options menu, making it easier for players to select the option they prefer. As the name implies, the “Performance – Sharp” mode offers a sharper overall image, but at the cost of having rough, pixlated edges. Meanwhile, “Perforamance – Smooth” mode doesn’t exhibit pixelated edges, but the overall image is visibly softer. It’s ultimately a trade-off, and it’s up to players to decide which setting works better for them.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Update 1.020 Pre-Patch vs Post-Patch Comparison
Screenshots showing a graphics comparison between the pre-patch (top) and the post-patch “Performance – Sharp” (middle) and “Performance – Smooth” (bottom) modes introduced via update 1.020 in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth can be seen below.
The screenshots indicate that the anti-aliasing technique that had been implemented before the patch has now found its way back into the game as “Performance – Smooth” mode. Meanwhile, the pre-patch edge sharpening is retained in the “Performance – Strong” mode.
In addition to adding options for Performance mode image quality, update 1.020 for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth also brings improvements to the game’s performance. These include a more stable frame rate and overall game stability. The update also makes several Quality of Life changes, including strengthened guiding support for climbing vines in the “Mythril Mine” location, aiding navigation and exploration. Furthermore, new difficulty settings have been added to the customization screens of the “Condor Fort” and “Gambit Gears” mini-games, offering players the ability to adjust the challenge level to their liking.
