Square Enix ended its Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration broadcast with a first look at Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the sequel to 2020’s successful remake of the original Final Fantasy VII. The game has been announced exclusively for the PS5, and is slated to arrive sometime during the Winter of 2023.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. The latter is said to span across three games, expanding upon the story of the original game. Fans and critics alike praised Final Fantasy VII Remake upon its release, and the game has now sold over five million copies sold worldwide.
The creative director of the series, Tetsuya Nomura, said that he completely understands the concept and vision behind each of the projects. As someone who was involved in the creation of each of the original titles, he is actively involved in the development process of the forthcoming games in the series.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being developed so that anyone may enjoy it, regardless of whether or not they are familiar with the original game. In fact, Nomura claims the game could also serve as an entry point for those new to the series, given that Cloud and his group of friends go on a brand new adventure after leaving Midgar behind. He looks forward to shedding further light on the connection between the titles ‘Remake’ and ‘Rebirth’ in due time, as well as unveiling the subtitle of the third and final game in the series.
According to Square Enix, since switching over to a new development structure, work on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been moving relatively quickly. It’s rare for the development team to work on a series of this scale, in which everything was deeply intertwined and interconnected long before actual production began.
