The forthcoming update for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo is scheduled for release on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. The update will also add a new playable open world section i.e. the Junon region, for fans to experience prior to getting their hands on the game at launch. Saved progress is said to carry over to the final release, and those who try the demo will also earn a special in-game reward. The aforementioned reward is the Kupo Charm – Survival Set, which seems to suggest that it will include a number of items for use.

Previously, during an interview, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth co-director Motomu Toriyama stated that open world role-playing games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt served as the the basis for some extensive research during development. He mentioned that the development team looked at it as a baseline, so that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth could be a game that can stand alongside it and have the type of content that would be satisfying to its players.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set for release exclusively on PS5. Similar to its predecessor, the gameplay will blend real-time action with strategic and role-playing elements. The narrative unfolds immediately after the events of Remake. Players will take control of the mercenary Cloud Strife and a party primarily consisting of members from the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE. Together, they embark on a journey across the Planet to thwart the megacorporation Shinra’s exploitation of the Lifestream, the planet’s life essence, as an energy source. Additionally, they aim to defeat Sephiroth, a former elite SOLDIER, who plans to unite with the Planet to gain greater power.
