Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Details Revealed as Director Addresses Fan Questions

by Ali Haider

New details about the third installment of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy have been shared by game director Naoki Hamaguchi, offering early hints about the game’s locations and gameplay features while addressing several long-standing fan questions.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 does not yet have an official title and that Square Enix has not announced a release date. However, the director suggested that players may not have to wait too long for further news.

Square Enix is expected to reveal the game sometime this year, though Hamaguchi declined to provide a specific launch window.

Hamaguchi also explained that the development team intends to introduce new gameplay elements in the third installment rather than repeating the structure of the previous two games.

“We didn’t want the three installments to be a reskinning of the same game over and over again. We want to make sure we’re expanding with every installment in terms of scale, as well as retaining that freshness as you go into each installment.”

According to the director, the core gameplay systems are already in place, with the team now focusing on polishing the experience.

During the interview, Hamaguchi also addressed several locations and gameplay features that fans have speculated about since the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

When asked whether Rocket Town will appear in the game, he confirmed that the location will be included.

“Yeah, this is one of the elements we had to switch around with Rebirth. Yes.”

Another key location from the original game, Wutai, will also play an important role in the upcoming installment.

“It’s one of the main locations. Yuffie’s made a very prominent appearance, stating her case about her homeland. So if Wutai’s not featured, I think the fans are going to yell at me.”

Hamaguchi also hinted that the Highwind airship will be central to the gameplay experience, though he stopped short of revealing specific mechanics.

“Flying the Highwind is a very large part of the third installment. Let me leave it at that.”

Other elements from the original game were addressed more cautiously. When asked about Chocobo breeding, the director declined to confirm whether the mechanic would return, but suggested that Chocobo-related gameplay will appear in a new form.

“I can’t say yay or nay on the actual breeding. But there is an element in the third installment involving Chocobos that is a little different than Rebirth.”

Questions about space travel and underwater exploration were also met with playful responses, with Hamaguchi choosing not to reveal whether those features will be included.

“I’ll keep that a secret but considering Rocket Town is a yes…”

Regarding the Great Glacier region, Hamaguchi hinted that the game’s opening could follow the narrative progression established at the end of Rebirth.

“Because it is a major element in the game, I won’t go deep into details. But considering that toward the end of Rebirth, we’re in the Forgotten City — and in the original you would go into Icicle Inn from there — I guess that hints at how the third installment will begin.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 will conclude Square Enix’s modern reimagining of the original 1997 role-playing classic. The game is currently in development and is expected to expand the world map further while continuing the story following the events of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
