Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 director Naoki Hamaguchi has reportedly shared the scene he most looks forward to recreating from the original.

During a recent video, content creator Vinny Vinesauce (via Genki_JPN on Twitter/X) revealed that he recently had lunch with Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director Naoki Hamaguchi in New York City, and asked him which scene from the 1997 original he was most excited to recreate in Part 3. According to him, the lunch was a casual gathering arranged while Hamaguchi was in New York to promote the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake on the Nintendo Switch 2. “There was no business to be done. There was no photos, no anything. We just hung out at a place near Rockefeller,” he said. The meeting reportedly involved around ten people, including games journalist Jason Schreier, and the discussion ranged across classic games, music, and shared nostalgia.

At one point during the discussion, the content creator asked Hamaguchi, “What is the scene? What is the thing from Final Fantasy 7 original that you’re most looking forward to getting into part 3 or that you know is already in [the game]?” With the help of an interpreter, the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy responded by saying that the scene he was most looking forward to was “Cloud finding himself with the help of Tifa.”

Hamaguchi added that it was a moment that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3’s development team “nailed,” and one that received a great deal of time and care during development. This refers to a late-game sequence in the original, in which Tifa helps Cloud reconstruct his fractured memories and identity.

In related news, during a recent interview with Polygon, Hamaguchi mentioned that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 is already playable and has entered an active polishing phase. Read about it here.
