The title of part 3 in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy will be finalized within this year in 2025.
During a recent interview with Julien Chièze (via Genki_JPN on Twitter/X) featuring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director Guillaume Broche, Hamaguchi revealed that him and creative director Tetsuya Nomura have narrowed the title of part 3 in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy down to two options and will decide on which one by the end of this year. “We’ve narrowed it down to two, and within this year we’ll finalize which one [it is].”
Hamaguchi talked about how Final Fantasy shaped him both as a player and as a creator. He described the series as something that “raised” him and ultimately pushed him toward game development. After more than twenty years working within the franchise, he now feels a responsibility not only to honor its legacy but to elevate it further for future generations. This long-standing connection influences his approach to directing the Remake trilogy, constantly replaying in-development builds, adjusting story pacing, and ensuring that every narrative and gameplay element supports the experience the development team wants players to feel. The Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy director confirmed that development of part 3 is well underway, and that the official title will be finalized in 2025. While he did not explicitly state when fans will get to see it, the timing suggests a possible reveal at The Game Awards 2025 on December 11, 2025. Geoff Keighley’s event has become a favored stage for major announcements, and revealing the concluding chapter in the remake trilogy would be a major highlight for the show.
Hamaguchi also highlighted the creative endurance required to lead a multi-year epic like the Remake trilogy. According to him, a director’s passion must remain strong enough to inspire hundreds of team members over the course of several years.
