Square Enix’s upcoming action role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, will feature 3-character synergy attacks.
During a recent interview with PlayStation Access, director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature powerful 3-character synergy attacks, but fans shouldn’t expect to use them whenever they want. Instead, the development team has designed them to appear during more impactful battles.
Hamaguchi explained that the development team discussed how 3-character synergy attacks would fit into the game’s existing combat system, which already features regular abilities, 2-character synergy attacks and Limit Breaks. Adding a more powerful attack tier that players could use freely risked making them essential to winning battles and add the combat feeling repetitive. As a result, the team decided against allowing synergy attacks to be universally available, instead incorporating them into moments when the game’s experience reaches a particularly heightened level, with their presentation leaning towards the cinematic side.
The Final Fantasy VII Revelation director also talked about the game’s expanded combat options, including the addition of Cid and Vincent as playable characters. He explained that both characters have been designed with more technical mechanics, requiring players to pay closer attention to timing and button inputs to get the most out of their attacks.
Players will also be able to customize their party using Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s Fit system, which will allow them to adjust character roles to suit their individual playstyles.
Recently, Hamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will let players select Hard Mode from the beginning, alongside Dynamic Mode, which scales enemy strength to match the party’s level. Additionally, the adjustment screen includes options for Active Combat Style and Normal minigame difficulty. There’s also a feature for Main Scenario Level Sync.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is the third and final entry in Square Enix’s remake trilogy. The game is scheduled to launch globally on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
