Final Fantasy writer Nojima took to Twitter/X to comment on the results of a recent survey conducted by Dengeki Famitsu, which asked its readers to choose the top RPGs that made them cry.  5 of the games he worked on ended up ranking in the overall top 40 list based on all individual responses. He expressed his delight, saying that there’s nothing more joyful than knowing that his past work continues to linger in the hearts of those who played it, even after all these years.

Nojima’s 5 titles that ranked in Dengeki Famitsu‘s top 40 include Final Fantasy X at #1, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII at #2, Final Fantasy XV at #10, Final Fantasy VII at #24, and Kingdom Hearts 2 at #33.

The writer worked on the scenarios and settings for Final Fantasy X, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII, and Kingdom Hearts 2. He was less involved in the scenario writing for Final Fantasy XV, however.

A survey respondent who chose the #1 pick, Final Fantasy X, said that they cried  at the story of an awkward father and son set in a grand worldview. Another individual noted that everything from the storyline to the ending is so sad that it’s impossible not to cry. One respondent highlighted the “furious” developments during the game’s second half, which left them heartbroken and in tears.

As for the #2 pick, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, one fan said they cried so much that they thought their PSP would drown. Another respondent highlighted the way the story was brought to the expected ending. A fan mentioned that, despite being a prequel to Final Fantasy VII and knowing that the narrative couldn’t be changed, it was very painful to move forward to the ending.
