Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV is heading to Nintendo Switch 2, with a release scheduled for August 2026. The long-running MMORPG will debut on Nintendo Switch 2 with an early access period planned roughly one month ahead of its official launch.
According to the announcement, players new to Final Fantasy XIV on Switch 2 will need to purchase the game and subscribe in order to play. Existing players from other platforms can also join, though they will still be required to buy the Switch 2 version and maintain a separate subscription for that platform. However, those with active game time elsewhere will receive a 50% reduction on the Switch 2 subscription cost.
Square Enix stated, “There will be an initial one-month period of early access to ensure server stability, after which official service will start.” The company also confirmed that a Nintendo Switch Online membership will not be necessary to access the game, both during early access and after full launch.
Originally released in 2013 as A Realm Reborn, Final Fantasy XIV has since expanded across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The game is set in the world of Eorzea, where players take on the role of the Warrior of Light, engaging in story-driven quests, large-scale raids, and a wide range of activities supported by its flexible class system.
