A new rumor circulating online suggests Nintendo may already be laying the groundwork for several film projects based on its major franchises, including a potential Kirby movie. The information comes from the social media account MyTimeToShineHello, though its credibility remains uncertain and should be treated cautiously.
According to the post, “A Kirby movie is in early development,” alongside a number of other projects at varying stages. The same source claims that a Donkey Kong film is far along in development with a planned 2028 release, while work has reportedly begun on a third Mario film targeting 2029. Other properties mentioned include Star Fox, which is said to be aiming for 2030, as well as Luigi’s Mansion and Yoshi’s Island, both currently in earlier pitching phases. The post also states, “Despite previous statements, a Super Smash Bros. movie is being planned, but won’t release until after Star Fox,” while additional ideas such as films centered on Bowser and a Princess Peach and Rosalina pairing are also being explored.
Nintendo has gradually expanded its presence in film over the years. Early efforts included the 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. adaptation and the long-running Pokémon movie series. More recently, the company saw major success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, followed by its sequel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which released on April 1, 2026. Nintendo is also working on a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, currently scheduled for May 7, 2027.
While the rumored slate paints a broad picture of a possible interconnected film strategy, Nintendo has not officially confirmed any of these additional projects.
