A new Lollipop Chainsaw project is set to be announced at Tokyo Game Show on September 19, with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata also listed among the developers taking part in the stage event. His exact role in the project has not yet been revealed.
The Lollipop Chainsaw New Project stage event is scheduled to take place from 09:40 to 10:30 on September 19. The event listing names Tabata, who is also the CEO of JP Univers, alongside the game’s director, Mr. Nasu, the IP producer and other members of the development team.
According to the event description, the presentation will begin with a promotional video highlighting the world and appeal of Lollipop Chainsaw. A cosplayer portraying protagonist Juliet Starling will then appear on stage with a life-size replica of her chainsaw.
The developers are expected to discuss the new game before making what is described as a major announcement regarding a new project. The listing does not provide further details about what is being developed.
Lollipop Chainsaw originally launched in 2012 from Grasshopper Manufacture. The action game follows Juliet Starling, a San Romero High cheerleader who secretly works as a zombie hunter, as she battles an undead outbreak with her customised chainsaw and the severed but living head of her boyfriend, Nick.
The franchise was created through a collaboration between game director Goichi Suda, also known as Suda51, and filmmaker James Gunn, who co-wrote the game’s script. The IP later moved to Dragami Games, led by original producer Yoshimi Yasuda, and was most recently revisited through Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP.
