GTA 6 Map Reportedly Twice The Size Of GTA 5’s

by Salal Awan

The GTA 6 map is reportedly twice the size of GTA 5’s and three times larger than the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, according to information shared by a YouTuber, TGG, who was invited to Rockstar North in Edinburgh, Scotland, for a gameplay preview.

The creator was reportedly shown around 27 minutes of GTA 6 footage, followed by approximately two and a half hours of additional free roam gameplay. During the visit, Rockstar North co-head of development Rob Nelson is said to have provided comparisons between the upcoming game’s world and those of Rockstar’s previous titles.

According to the figures shared during the preview, GTA 6’s world is twice the size of GTA 5’s map and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2’s map.

Vice City Is Reportedly Twice The Size Of Los Santos

The size comparison becomes more striking when looking specifically at the game’s central city. Nelson reportedly said that Vice City is twice the size of Los Santos.

The surrounding areas increase the difference considerably further. Vice City and its suburbs are reportedly 11 times larger than Los Santos and its surrounding areas.

This suggests GTA 6’s larger world is not simply based on expanding the size of its main city, with considerably more space also being dedicated to the areas surrounding Vice City.

GTA 6 Will Feature A More Interactive World

The preview attendee also described Rockstar’s broader approach to GTA 6’s open world, saying that the game feels more alive than previous entries. NPCs reportedly feel more like real people, while player actions are said to carry greater weight.

One example is the game’s social media system. Players can see posts made by NPCs and identify where those posts originated, potentially allowing them to travel to those locations and encounter events happening in real time.

The game will also include various side activities and systems that can affect the playable characters. Gyms and other activities can reportedly provide benefits to health, stamina and Focus.

More Systems Will Populate The Larger Map

The gameplay preview covered a broad selection of GTA 6’s systems, including police, phones, vehicles, driving, robberies, fast travel, the fence system, events, side activities, gunplay, safe houses, garages and physics.

The police system in particular is described as being more involved than in GTA 5. Police officers will no longer simply appear on the mini map, meaning players will need to pay closer attention to their surroundings when attempting to escape a wanted level.

Police can reportedly recognise the vehicle a player enters, as well as their clothing, appearance and weapon. They can also identify situations involving Jason and Lucia together.
